Yoga yard

Built into an old mechanic’s yard and an unused office at the end of a terrace on Strand Street, Irishtown, Yoga Yard is the brainchild of yoga teacher Anne Parsons – introducing hot yoga studios to this part of Dublin.

The building consists of two yoga studios and a courtyard which separates from the refurbished terrace building. The two studios that can be joined together, both are top lit, one with direct access into the courtyard garden.

The terrace building has been renovated, externally insulated and reconfigured as a reception area and future juice bar; the semi basement turned into changing facilities. The first-floor apartment was retained but refurbished and provided with an external balcony.

Hot yoga functions at 40degree C. HCoA and IN2 -who worked together successfully on the award-winning Airfield Estate in Dundrum – were tasked with aiming for both energy efficiency and near zero carbon. The strategy is to utilise the highly insulated thermal mass of the studio structure, ventilating the spaces through a heat recovery unit and providing a large roof mounted solar PV array to power the heat pump with backup condensing gas boiler for the heat boost required.

Completed March 2023.
