THE DAINTREE BUILDING

The project was commissioned in 1999 by Daintree Ltd – with a brief to design an ‘oasis in the city- a beautiful place to work and live in’. As well as the Cake Café, Daintree has eight privately owned apartments, a co-working space for some 20 people and links through to the original Daintree shop - now a book shop – on Camden Street. It is a multi-storey timber frame building utilising sheep’s’ wool and cellulose insulation, finished in Donegal western red ceder and lime render; floors finished in salvaged pitch pine and balustrades in salvaged bamboo; heated bu ground source heat pump and solar thermal panels.
